Khaleesi Rehab Bobcat Goes Free

One of the programs here at Big Cat Rescue is dedicated to the rehab and release of bobcats that are native to Florida. They might have been found injured or as little baby kittens who lost their mom.

If a bobcat is found in the wild and brought to BCR with the goal to release them back into the wild later on, the contact to people is extremely limited to make sure that the animal is not getting used to humans.

On our way to the release site

We recently released a bobcat, Khaleesi, and I was one of the lucky interns who had a chance to watch her go free. It was one of my favorite moments of the internship!

The pictures and text below are from our website:

Yesterday Khaleesi the rehab bobcat was set free.  She was a little reluctant at first, sneaking through the tall grasses, but once she realized that she was free she bounded off into the palmetto brush.  Khaleesi was 6.5 months old and weighed 12 pounds.  The property on which she was released is 4,000 acres of privately owned prairie and forest land which also includes access to a river and a natural gas line that runs for hundreds of miles.  This natural gas line property can never be developed.  So Khaleesi can travel as far as she wants with no worries!
